Congress Greenlights Legislation to Make Public Epstein Documents

The upper chamber of Congress on Tuesday quickly approved to legislation that will mandate the disclosure of investigative files associated with the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a almost unanimous vote in the US House of Representatives and a shift by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. The administration gave in after months of trying to delay the cross-party initiative involving a case that has followed the president since his return to the White House.

Unanimous Passage in Congress

The Senate acted by general agreement, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a recorded vote, expediting the process. Hours earlier, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a 427-1 tally.

The public have endured sufficient delay. Those affected have waited patiently,” Chuck Schumer declared in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before urging the Senate to adopt it by consent. “Reveal the truth. Let transparency reign.”

Presidential Signature

This legislation next will be sent to the president for his endorsement. He stated on the previous day that he would approve the bill.

Though Trump has for an extended period dismissed the outcry over the official management of the Epstein case as a “false narrative”, he expressed his backing for the legislation over the weekend, and said he would sign the measure if it is presented to him.

Reaction

Democrats, along with victims and their advocates who were seated in a viewing area, cheered after the bill was approved. Lone dissent came from a GOP representative, who said he feared the measure would reveal specific data of people, persons of interest and others involved in the investigation.
